1937年12月，日军攻克南京，制造了“南京大剧照剧照(2张) 屠杀”惨案。为实现“三个月亡华”的野心，日军进攻武汉。我军地下党员、国军中校古剑锋在执行刺杀冈村宁次的任务中牺牲。其妻白浪受组织委派，带队营救从南京逃到武汉的握有南京大屠杀影像资料的两个美国医生，经过与日军特务机关生死较量，圆满完成任务。白浪小队又先后接受了除掉日军驻武汉总司令并夺回国宝、粉碎日军与国民党投降派谈判阴谋、炸毁日军大规模杀伤性武器库、营救美军飞行员、勇闯日军101实验所等任务。白浪小分队团结抗日力量，与日军驻武汉特务机关展开了一次又一次的生死较量，最终全部为国捐躯。
1937年，“七七事变”后，八路军奉命东渡黄河。郑川率独立团开赴前线，激战平型关、获得嘉奖；而国军失利遭批评，周治国不服郑川。战乱中，郑川与失去音讯的妻子黎英偶遇，在黎英帮助下，独立团突袭机场，支援了正面战场。日军受困转而突袭娘子关，太原沦陷。独立团以太岳山为依托创建抗日根据地，首先剿灭土匪，赢得百姓拥护，却引得周福源等顽固派不安，大搞摩擦，黎英牺牲。为顾大局，独立团洒泪撤离。日军随即发动中条山战役，国军惨败，周治国捐躯，太岳沦陷。独立团重新开辟根据地，郑川指挥“太岳围困战”。作曲家冼星海目睹战士壮举，创作《黄河大合唱》。经历鏖战，“围困战”获胜利，最终打败了日本，反法西斯战争胜利。
