李翰祥执导的《佛跳墙》共有四个单元，首个故事是描述一对母子因施予济公一碗豆浆而逃过丧命之危；其二则说济公帮助卖菜汉，逃离高利贷者的滋扰；其三则写济公以樱桃化夜明珠，将大盗教训一顿；最末一则是描写济公以巧计捉弄胡作非为的相爷父子。李翰祥借济公的善行，针贬权贵恶霸的种种恶行，为平民大众吐一口乌气。
