30年代的中国南方小城填，在一间一层半高的旧房子里，住着逃难而来的小宋(宋礼)和他的姑姑——宋心。两人靠屋前开设的小饼店为生，造的烧饼美味又便宜，赢得大家的称许，可赚的钱却仅够供小宋读书和维持基本的生活，主要是由于战后许多人生活都很困难，虽然宋心做的饼受大家欢迎，但他们非常克己，价格低廉，故此赚的钱并不多。小宋除了上课，余下时间就要帮姑姑做饼、看店。
