原是话剧演员的陈星借调到电视台，她的亮相极为成功，而陈星丈夫徐明皓面对妻子的光环颇感失落。陈星发现自己怀孕了，徐明皓却不太关心。陈星对胎儿越来越寄予厚望，不料胎死腹中查出是母体带梅毒。徐明皓得知后提出离婚。陈星失去孩子，工作，丈夫，并为舆论压迫，痛苦之中选择了自杀，被沈子强所救。后查出陈星患的是胎传梅毒，于是陈星查明生母的身世，了解到旧社会女性所受的苦难，决定作一期自己身世背景的《女性风景》节目，把误入歧途的女孩拉回到阳光下。
