该剧创意源自瑞典画家西蒙·斯塔伦海格创作的画作，在他的画中科幻元素与瑞典乡村及其它各地风光巧妙地融为一体。“环形”是一种用来解开宇宙奥秘的机器，它让科幻小说中的事情成为可能。这个梦幻又神秘的小镇将讲述生活在“环形”的人类的心酸故事。
