《山海奇谭》是一部面向12岁-22岁之间的青少年魔幻冒险题材的三维电视动画片，以冒险，魔幻，战斗，幽默的剧情来阐述故事，主要讲述的是主人翁彭涞通过在各地的冒险与反派领导的怪兽斗智斗勇，以机智勇敢乐观的精神，克服各种各样的困难最终收回山海兽。女主人翁彭涞是一名14岁的初中生。暑假期间，彭涞独自到外地旅游，误入了一个神秘的洞窟。那个洞窟其实是贮藏中华古籍《山海经》的古代遗迹。彭涞早有耳闻《山海经》是一部奇书，便好奇地取下祭坛上的《山海经》来阅读，不料因此解开了书本的封印，导致山海经中的各种奇妖异兽从书中跑了出来。山海经本身也成了无字天书，为了平息这场骚动、并将山海经还原，勇敢的彭涞挺身而出，踏上了回收山海兽，修复《山海经》旅程。
